Why facing challenges is important for the Youth – Learn from Markhor

You may call me captain obvious for stating this but I’ll say it anyway. If you are a living organism then there are bound to be challenges in your life. They come in various shapes, sizes and magnitudes and their amount of damage varies as well. Some may not be noticed at all and some might tear your life apart. People deal with them in various ways. Most of us, especially the young ones, teenagers and such, run away from the challenge or give up too early when faced with one.

In practice, this is a completely wrong approach to deal with a challenge. Let’s take the example of the markhor. It lives in one of the harshest climates in the world. Just thinking about the cold there sends a shiver down my spine even though it’s quite hot here. Amidst the snow covered mountains and the frozen lakes sustenance is hard to find. Obtaining food for survival is a challenge in itself. After all that, another nearly insurmountable challenge is the constant threat of predators. It has to be on alert all the time and cater for every possible attack.

The markhor has such huge challenges that threaten its existence yet it’s not complaining nor is it crying in a corner. It stands tall and faces all the challenges head on without a shred of fear or doubt. The youth should learn from the markhor and face their challenges. They should never fear anything and should strive to overcome the challenge. Dreading it and running away from it will not make it go away. Rather, facing it head on can help them learn important lessons only learnt through experience and can also bestow upon them everlasting memories. A challenge is also a means of testing themselves and realizing their true hidden potential. Through the effort invested in overcoming their challenges the youth can discover new hidden skills and also improve their existing ones.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
– Martin Luther King, Jr.

Others are best at giving advice but words remain words. They never materialize into actions. Listen to their advices but create your own path and lead yourself out of your difficulties because you are the only one who knows the real situation you are in. Take help but never take it for granted. Learn to use your head and challenge the challenge to a duel and win your victory. Also, last but never the least, don’t forget to have fun because that’s what life is all about.
